Ontario International Airport passenger volume climbed 11.6% in September
More than 4 million have traveled through airport this year

(Ontario, California – September 17, 2019) – Ontario International Airport continued its pace of double-digit growth in passenger volume last month as nearly 470,000 passed through its terminals, an increase of 11.6% over September last year. For the year, the airport also saw passenger totals climb beyond 4 million.

Domestic passenger volume reached 446,169 in September while the number of international travelers was 23,155, increases of 10.8% and 29.8% over September 2018, respectively. It was the third straight month of double-digit traveler growth.

During the first nine months of the year, more than 4 million air travelers were welcomed at ONT, representing an 8% increase over the same period in 2018 and marking yet another milestone for the Inland Empire facility. The number of domestic travelers exceeded 3.8 million while international travelers totaled almost 224,000, Domestic volume increased 6.5% and international grew 41.8% compared to the same period last year.

“The sustained growth in domestic and international travelers reaffirms Ontario’s status as the nation’s fastest growing airport and best alternative airport,” said Mark Thorpe, chief executive officer of the Ontario International Airport Authority. “Month after month, customers are expressing their satisfaction in our first-rate facilities, appealing services and hassle-free airport experience.”

Commercial freight shipments remained relatively flat in September totaling nearly 60,000 tons, an increase of 1.5% over September a year ago. Mail shipments, meanwhile, decreased more than 47%. From January through September, commercial freight grew 3.3% to more than 539,000 tons while shipments of mail declined more than 20%. Overall, air cargo grew 2.3% for the year.

More than a half-million passengers flew through Ontario International Airport in August, 10% increase

(Ontario, California – September 17, 2019) – More than half a million airline passengers flew through Ontario International Airport (ONT) in August, a 10% increase over August last year, airport officials announced today.

For the month, ONT welcomed more than 504,000 air travelers, with domestic passengers totaling nearly 479,000 and the number of international travelers exceeding 25,000. Domestic and international passenger volumes grew 9.9% and 13.3% in August, respectively.

From January through August, the total number of passengers who arrived at and departed from ONT was almost 3.6 million, an increase of 7.5% over the same period in 2018. Domestic travelers totaled nearly 3.4 million, an increase of 6%, while the number of international passengers rose 43% to more than 200,000 over the first eight months of the year.

“The continued growth in passenger volume is a great source of pride for all of us who are dedicated to developing a first-rate international gateway for Southern California,” said Mark Thorpe, chief executive officer of the Ontario International Airport Authority. “That more and more travelers are choosing Ontario reflects the tremendous achievements made to provide the facilities, services and amenities, along with our hallmark hassle-free experience, which appeal to our customers.”

Air freight shipments were essentially flat in August at 65,514 tons, outpacing August last year by 28 tons, while mail shipments decreased by 45%. For the first eight months of the year, commercial freight grew 3.6% to more than 479,000 tons while mail shipments declined more than 17%. Overall, air cargo shipments were up 2.7% compared to the same period a year ago.
